We’re Speaking at Eurovox 2026! 🇨🇭
We are thrilled to announce that our SingLates method will be introduced at Eurovox 2026, the European congress for voice professionals, taking place in Lucerne, Switzerland from 20–22 August 2026. Eurovox is a major international event that brings together leading voice teachers, pedagogues, clinicians, and performers to explore innovative approaches in vocal training and voice work.
Our session “Voice in Motion — Redefining Vocal Training Through Pilates, Vocal Exercises, and Breath” will highlight how SingLates integrates movement, breathwork, and vocal technique to support core stability, body alignment, and vocal freedom. Developed in Finland by Jenny Liebkind and Anna Hakala, the method offers a transformative, voice-centred approach that blends modified Pilates with conscious breathing and sound. This holistic practice fosters optimal voice production and well-being for singers and voice professionals alike.
We look forward to sharing our work and connecting with the global voice community at Eurovox 2026!
SingLates is a breathing, voice, and Pilates-based training method designed to improve breathing control for singing, athletic performance, posture, and overall body awareness.
It combines Pilates exercises, vocal training, and breathing techniques to help improve:
SingLates is used by singers, performers, voice professionals, and athletes who want to develop stronger breath control and more efficient body use in performance and everyday life.
The method was developed by Jenny Liebkind and Anna Hakala—two passionate experts in their fields. Jenny, a singer, voice teacher and breathing coach, and Anna, a singer, voice teacher, Pilates instructor and massage therapist, have combined their knowledge to create a unique and holistic approach that integrates Pilates, vocal techniques, and breathing for optimal body and voice wellness. This innovative method blends modified Pilates movements with vocal exercises, all grounded in conscious breathing. While traditional Pilates focuses on physical alignment and core strength, SingLates goes beyond by placing the voice at the center of each session, integrating breathing techniques that help harmonize the entire body and mind.
In SingLates, we approach movement with the voice in mind—ensuring proper vocal technique and body alignment. This makes it distinct from classical Pilates, as we prioritize the flow of sound and breath. For instance, key differences include relaxation of the superficial abdominal muscles and maintaining a straight "singing posture" that supports vocal health. The practice is primarily done standing, sitting, or lying down, often supported by the wall for stability.
One of the key principles of SingLates is the concept of breath reprogramming. Babies breathe naturally and effortlessly, but as we grow, many of us develop poor breathing habits. In SingLates, we focus on nasal breathing and work on balancing the ratio of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body through specific carbon dioxide exercises. These exercises, typically done before vocal work, activate the lungs and help calm the nervous system, creating a relaxed state ready for the vocal and physical challenges ahead.
By combining movement with mindful breath and sound, SingLates offers an integrated approach to well-being that promotes relaxation, strength, and vocal freedom.
The SingLates method, a unique combination of Pilates and vocal training, offers you the opportunity to develop a holistic approach to body movement, breath control, and voice usage. This innovative method focuses on improving posture, strength, and balance through Pilates exercises, while simultaneously strengthening the muscles that support your breathing for optimal vocal performance.
Developed in Finland, the SingLates method is designed to enhance voice quality, increasing clarity and confidence in communication. By integrating vocal techniques into Pilates movements, SingLates not only improves your physical strength and flexibility but also deepens your breathing and supports a more powerful, resonant voice.
SingLates is based on the idea that breathing plays a central role in both movement and performance. Over time, many people develop inefficient breathing habits, which can affect posture, endurance, and vocal control.
The method focuses on improving nasal and diaphragmatic breathing while developing coordination between breath, posture, and movement. Modified Pilates exercises are combined with vocal work so that the body and voice function as one integrated system.
This makes SingLates relevant for those interested in improving breathing for singing, developing vocal support, or enhancing breathing efficiency in physical training.
SingLates classes provide structured training that develops breathing control, posture, and vocal coordination simultaneously. Each session integrates movement, breath awareness, and vocal exercises in a way that supports both physical and expressive performance.
The aim is not only to build strength or improve voice quality, but to improve how the body and breath work together in practice.
Through regular practice, participants develop greater awareness of how breathing supports both movement and voice. Training includes work on diaphragmatic breathing, posture and alignment, vocal support, and coordination between breath and sound.
Participants also explore vocal clarity, pitch transitions, and articulation, alongside developing a more stable and efficient breathing pattern during movement.
This approach is suitable for singers, performers, and physically active individuals who want to improve both performance and overall body awareness.
SingLates is based on the idea that breathing is a trainable skill that directly influences performance, recovery, and voice production. By working with breathing as part of a coordinated system, the method helps reduce unnecessary tension and supports more efficient movement patterns.
This integrated approach supports both performance quality and overall wellbeing.
SingLates is informed by perspectives from embodied performance research, where breathing is understood as part of the interaction between body, perception, movement, and expression.
From this perspective, breathing is not only a physiological process but a trainable component of performance coordination. This is particularly relevant in high-demand contexts such as musical theatre, athletic training, and other performance-based fields.
SingLates offers a way to explore how breathing, movement, and voice can work together more efficiently. Through regular practice, many participants experience improved breath control, better posture, and increased confidence in both physical and vocal expression.

"A low-intensity restorative practice, grounding and enjoyable. A newer singer will definitely benefit from the connection between the body, diaphragm, and voice. A more experienced singer will gain a lot from the Pilates portion."- Marja
"The best realization was noticing that my voice flows! By calmly observing and listening, I was able to let my voice flow. My voice has been missing for a long time, and I’ve had to force it, so this was an IMPORTANT experience!" - Salla
